Do you ever lose or misplace your wallet even for a moment and wonder why it keeps happening? It’s frustrating to misplace your wallet, but it feels worse to lose it somewhere outside of your control, like in the grocery store or at the post office.

Hopefully, when you lose your wallet, someone will make the effort to return it to you. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen, and in some cases, you might get your wallet minus any cash you were carrying.

If this keeps happening, you’re probably just busy and not paying attention to where you set it down. Regardless, if you’re tired of losing track of your wallet, here are some possible solutions.

1. Carry a Larger Wallet

You know those small, thin, compact wallets? If you have one of those, it’s going to be easy to lose or misplace. For instance, your wallet could slip down a crack in your car and slide out of view. If you put a book on top of it, you won’t see it and you’ll think it’s lost.

A great safeguard against losing your wallet is to start carrying a bigger wallet. Although, large wallets don’t have to look big and bulky. Some of the bigger wallet styles are quite fashionable, like the leather wallets from Portland Leather Goods. Leather goes with just about everything, and you can get a wallet in your favorite shade to match your outfits.

The benefits to carrying a larger wallet are simple. A big wallet is harder to misplace because it’s easy to see even when it’s in the wrong place. If you set a book on top of it, there will likely be some part poking out. You won’t go in circles for very long looking for it.

Larger wallets are also harder to lose because if they hit the floor, you’ll likely hear or see it happen. Other well-meaning people around you might also see or hear you drop your wallet when it’s large.

2. Go Retro With a Chain Wallet

Wallet chains were popular in the 1990s, but they actually first gained popularity in the 1970s in the punk scene. People didn’t want to lose their wallet in the mosh pit or fall prey to pickpocketing, and having a wallet attached to a chain worked well.

Chain wallets might be associated with bikers, rebels, and punks, but many people who don’t fit into those categories wear wallets with chains. You don’t have to get a huge chain, and it doesn’t need to be visible. It just needs to be long enough that your wallet can reach your back pocket.

When your wallet is on a chain, you won’t be able to leave it behind at the grocery store, at the post office, or anywhere for that matter. If you leave it on the counter and try to walk away, it will just fall and stay attached to you by the chain.

3. Use a Wallet Tracker

Perhaps the best way to keep track of your wallet is to use wallet tracker. This is a device you put inside your wallet that connects to a smartphone app to tell you where your wallet is located.

Some of the trackers are thin and look just like a credit card, while others are chunky tile-type devices.

A wallet tracker will come in handy no matter how you’ve lost your wallet, whether it was dropped, stolen, or just misplaced in your home.

4. Be Intentional

Aside from devices, being intentional is probably the best way to prevent losing your wallet. Be intentional with where you set your wallet down, and pay attention to where you set your wallet during transactions or when you pull things out of your pocket.

When you’re intentional about handling your wallet, you’ll be less likely to leave it anywhere accidentally. Also, create a specific space to place your wallet when you’re at home. Make it a habit to put your wallet in the same place every time and you’ll avoid rushing around to find it when you need to leave the house.

You Don’t Have to Lose Your Wallet

Even though it might seem impossible, you don’t need to lose your wallet. There are plenty of ways to keep it connected to you and/or track where it is when you’ve misplaced it.
