General File Transfer error

Symptoms:
- Using Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
- Installing CompanionLink/DoubleLook/DoubleNotes.
- Error message: 'General file transfer error. Please check your target location and try again. Error number -3.'
Explanation:
In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, it is possible to turn off support for 8dot3 filename creation. If you do so, then the installation process for our software will fail.
Fix:
- Click on the Start menu and click on Run.
- In the Run box, type regedt32, and then click OK.
- In the Registry Editor, in the lefthand window, click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE.
- Click the plus sign next to SYSTEM.
- Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet.
- Click the plus sign next to Control.
- Click on the FileSystem folder.
- In the righthand window, find NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation, then right-click this and choose Modify.
- In the Value Data box, type the number 0.
- Click OK.
- Exit the Registry Editor.
- Restart your computer.
- Retry the installation process.
