Microsoft has been getting a bit pushy with their prompts to upgrade your current working Windows 10 to Windows 11. If you want to permanently disable the Windows 11 Upgrade Prompt use the followings steps:











Disable the Windows 11 Upgrade Prompt in the Registry

Use the following steps to disable the Upgrade Prompt in the Windows Registry:

  1. Press the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog, type regedit into command line and click OK to open Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to and select the following key in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
  3. Set the Dword TargetReleaseVersion to 1. If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > Dword (32-bit) Value.
  4. Set the value of TargetReleaseVersionInfo to 22H2. If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > String Value.

Close the registry Editor and this should prevent Windows from Prompting to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Disable the Windows 11 Upgrade Prompt in the Group Policy Editor (Windows Pro and Enterprise ONLY)

Use the following steps to disable the Upgrade Prompt using the Group Policy Editor:

  1. Open the Start Menu and Type gpedit.msc to load the Group Policy Editor.
  2. Go to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business.
  3. Double-click on “Select the target feature update version”.
  4. Set the policy to Enabled and Type 22H2 into the field.
  5. Close the Group Policy Editor.
