ACT! API Error: MissingMasterDatabaseException
This error indicates a problem between ACT!'s programming interface and SQL server. You may be able to fix this problem using the procedures below:
- Repair SQL server using the ACT installation CD.
- Back up your ACT database.
- Insert your ACT! installation CD.
- Use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to browse to the following folder on the CD:
* If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, browse to \Dependencies\SQL Express 2008 R2\x64
* If you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, browse to \Dependencies\SQL Express 2008 R2\x32 - Run Setup.exe
- In the SQL Server Installation Center, click Maintenance, then click Repair.
- Use the wizard to repair the ACT7 instance of SQL Server.
- Once the repair operation is complete, attempt a synchronization to see if the problem persists. If you still receive the error, then try the following procedure:
- Remove and reinstall ACT!/SQL server
- Back up your ACT database.
- Completely uninstall ACT and all SQL applications and databases

- Re-install ACT
- Restore your ACT database backup into a new ACT database using the "Restore As" function
Your ACT! username or password is invalid.
- Open ACT!
- Click Help > About ACT!
- Note what is displayed for Registered User
- Enter this information in in CompanionLink under ACT Settings
- NOTE: A blank password should be fine unless one is set
